Obituary for E. R. Nash Junior

E.R. Nash Jr. of 1625 Morrow Avenue, President of Nash-Robinson & Co., Inc. died at 8:30 a. m. Sunday, May 17, 1959 in a Waco hospital. He was 76.

He had been in the hospital since Saturday when he suffered a stroke at the home of his son, Rufus W. Nash.

Mr. Nash’s birthday was May 15. He and his family were holding a belated birthday party Saturday and were just sitting down at the table when Mr. Nash complained of being ill. (He had just taken a big bite of Virginia’s fresh hot roll) when he collapsed and had to be taken to the hospital.

Funeral services will be at 3 p. m. Monday in the First Baptist Church of Waco. Dr. Harold E. Lindsey, pastor, and Dr. J. M. Dawson of Austin, a former pastor, will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.

Mr. Nash was born in Bryan May 15, 1883. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Nash Sr.

The family moved to Waco in 1890. Mr. Nash Sr. and John Robinson founded the Nash-Robinson & Co., Inc. in Waco that same year.

Mr. Nash was reared and educated in Waco. He graduated from Waco High School and from Baylor University in 1904. He started to work at Nash-Robinson & Co., Inc. following his graduation from Baylor and never held any other job.

He married Miss Louise Higginbotham of Dublin Nov. 28, 1906.

Mr. Nash’s father died March 3, 1925. He succeeded his father as president of the Nash-Robinson & Co., Inc. and held the post continually until his death.

He had put in a full day’s work last Friday and worked until noon on Saturday.

Mr. Nash was extremely active in religious and civic work. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a deacon in the church and had been church treasurer more than 30 years.

He was a member of Baylor University’s board of directors and of the executive committee of the board.

Mr. Nash also was a member of Hillcrest Hospital’s board of directors, a director of the First National Bank of Waco and a Mason.
