[Christmas]
12-23-07
At Christmas Dinner– our house
1. My grand-daughter, “Cool One” is Harriet.
Just give her a challenge, she’ll dare it.
No bridge is too high
To jump from, she’ll try!
If your load is too heavy, she’ll carry it.
2. Just guess who is winsome and witty-
Who packed up and moved from our city-
To a whole different scene
with an ocean between-
ELIZABETH—A.K.A. “Bitty!”
3. I cannot sing you a Christmas song
For Hernandez is a name too long.
But this much is true
To all FIVE of you:
My love will always be strong.
4. On Beverly Hilton’s newly-wed-floor,
Live two folks I simply adore.
They fix me my tea
And take care of me-
Who could ask for anything more?
5. Who is this girl I’m proud to claim?
Whose I.D. and mine are practically the same?
A blue-eyed blonde beauty
Gorman Company’s her duty.
She’s JOSEPHINE! My favorite NAME!
6. Cici, my friend thru’ the years,
Is highly esteemed by her peers.
Owns dozens of hats
But doesn’t like cats-
Let’s give her a hug and three CHEERS!
7. Ca you name our musical TWO?
One plays trumpet – that’s a clue-
One sings in the choir-
But their heart’s real desire
Is loving on little Matthew.
8. A compatible pair are the Nashes
He works downtown where the cash is-
She’s famous for cooking,
Is also good-looking-
Their schedules seldom have clashes.
9. Who do we know in Cedar Hill?
Where making seals helps pay the bill?
They’ve a cat named “Boo”
And a herd of cows too-
Even cactus blooms on the window-sill.
[Elizabeth and Al’s Wedding]
2-2-08
In Anticipation of 2-2-08
A Big Deal soon we’ll celebrate,
It’s Biddie’s MOST important date!
Tho’ marriage is serious,
We’re all quite delirious–
So set your clock and don’t be late!
2-2-08
What Was It?
When the best wedding under the sun
Was finally over and vows were done
Then Bitty opined,
While on omelet she dined,
“Twas like a pageant, girls, and I WON!”
[On her wedding anniversary]
“Today”
November 3, 1938/November 3, 2009
Today’s my anniversary
Tho’ nobody knows it but me –
THIS day I was married long time ago–
With happiness only brides can know!
I remember it well: the church was full- T
he occasion very proper and prim.
The organ played “Here Comes the Bride!”
But my eyes were only on him.
‘Twas the greatest Joy in all my LIFE!
That Horace would choose me to be his WIFE!!
(she drew a heart around “Horace” and “me”)
Christmas 2010
This Christmas I celebrate ninety-four
A long time of living and loving galore!
In fact, my blessings could not be any better
Yet I’m writing Santa Clause a “please-gimme-letter”
I WANT…
First good health, and a little more wealth!
Then the good sense not to bore
with yarns heard before – – also – –
Above average kids, plus sweet friends to greet.
Please! Plenty of chocolate to eat!
With thanks from Granny,
Sent in advance–
P.S. one thing more—I’d LOVE TO DANCE!!
