Rufus W. Higginbotham – Profile in “Centennial Story of Texas Baptists (1936)”


Rufus W. Higginbotham, one of the most successful merchants among Texas Baptist laymen, came to Texas in 1879 and developed a chain of retail stores operated under the firm name of Higginbotham Brothers. At the time of his death in March, 1931, Mr. Higginbotham was president of six large business companies and was a director in may other enterprises. Mr. Higginbotham was converted in a revival meeting in 1894 and was ever afterward a liberal contributor to his church and denomination, being especially interested in Baylor Hospital and Buckner Orphans Home.
