To Bitty

I loved your “coffee-shop reflections”
They proved your heavenly connections-
to set down your load
by the side of the road
And let God make the “DO-NOW” selections.

8-23-07

Dear AL:

Since reading your recent poetic endeavor,
I feel that our friendship is planted forever.
But if you don’t mind
I’ll not answer in kind
Because I’ve run out of clever.

 (Re:AL) To Bittie

I’ve read and re-read your last letter,
So my perception of him is much better.
It takes little exertion
To like this “AL” person.
I’d wag my tail- If I were an Irish Setter.

10-21-07

Questions for Annie?

What happened to my Milky-Way?
Who picked it up from where it lay?
Did some fat clown
Then scarf it down?
And take my happiness away?

No! ‘Twas an elephant, I think.
Who’d had a lot too much to drink,
Who snooped it up his trunk
Like some ordinary drunk-

He should-a-been locked in the CLINK!

4-5-07

There once was a brown-shrimp called “Bitty.”
She was white-whale’s favorite kiddie-
She could dance- she could sing
or do any ole thing-
But sob!! She’s out of the city!
Whatta pity!

8-23-07

By Biddy (then she drew a diagonal line and wrote “Bittie”) 😉

Can you guess what’s my favorite time?
It’s whenever I jot down a rhyme.
A short timeless ditty
To send off to Bitty-
Actually not worth a dime.

Along with “Fruit Loops” and tea,
I scribble down some part of me.
Esoteric it’s not
But that’s all I’ve got-
For only her eyes to see.

Do I wish she were still on my scene?
Instead of an ocean between?
No, I like this plan
Where Godfinds her man-
And she is forever his queen!!

12-07

To Personal Christmas Shopper Co.

Thank you, Sweet Suzie, for all that you do-
For shopping and wrapping- but that’s nothing new!
You’ve given yourself
Till there’s not much left-
Then smiles till Christmas is through!

07

To RoseMary Rumbley

Your Halloween card made my day-
So now I demand equal “say.”
I won’t scream out “Boo!”
For I love you too–
And will- until my dying day.

9-07

To Charlotte Davis

Are eighty years an “old-age” time?
No! Cut the cake! Let bells chime!
Should truth be told
They’re years of gold.
You’ve just now reached your PRIME!

07

  Ode To Favorite Feline

Here’s to Tibbs, tuxedo cat
My bed is where he’s usually at.
Curled in a heap
Fast asleep
Lazy and loveable – all of that.

07

For the B-day girl!

Today is the birthday of Cici
Who churches at Park Cities P. C.
The family’s Grande Dame
Well known for her calm
To love and admire her is E-E-SY!

1-12-08

The girl we all love is named ANNIE
She helps out by being a nanny.
Tho’ she sings like a lark
And lights up the dark
Her hiccoughs are something UNCANNY!

4-13-07

Happy B’Day-

What more can be done
For number ONE son?
In stores there’s a lot
Which he’s already got!

So how about dinner?
Steak’s always a winner.
If thisain’t enough,
It goes on the cuff!      (enclose $$$)

2-2-08

Annie/Granny “LOGO?”

A special bond twixt you and me
Is a shining little yellow tree–
called “Ginko”
(I think so!)
In Highland Park and N.Y.C.!

2-14-08

To B/5-

In the hall upon a chair,
I found a lovely valentine there-
From my favorite TWO
I thank God for you!
You outrank anyone, anywhere!

2-14-08

Dear Bonner,
I was enormously flattered
(not that it mattered-)
With the jingle you wrote-
On your valentine note.
For your love I so appreciate
No doubt your most endearing trait!
(Have we all your jingle-MAD?
I’ve used up all the brain I had.

4-5-08

To Elizabeth

A “Happy b-day-late”
Is slightly better than none-
Tho’ you’re top of the heap As
“A-number-one!”

I recall how we praised Him
For His gift from above
For our new baby – “Elizabeth”
A bundle of love!

The years multiplied
You blossomed and grew-
And followed God’s plan.
Like we knew you would do!

Now you’ve turned thirty-one,
Your Dyke life has begun.
But wherever you may be,
over-land or over-sea-
You’re carved on my heart-
You’re still Bittie to me!

HAPPY! HAPPY!

7-8-08

But to Whom?

I clean forgot your birthday.
I do this all the time,
So I’m asking your forgiveness
With this home-made little rhyme.

May much happiness surround you
And your disappointments few!
May God bestow his blessings
On everything you do!

(No Reason) 4-20-08 (Passover)

Two Elizabeths!

One is named AL
One is named HAL.
Two guys, miles apart
Yet connected at heart-
For each has the same-name-GAL!

08

(This one is taped inside Granny’s book, written by Annie,
because Granny was worrying about Annie camping out all night
at a Chick-Fil-A grand opening.)

My Granny, dear,
Please do not fear,
For “your fave” will be alright.
She will stay dry and warm.
And return in good form, H
aving eaten Chick-Fil-A all night!

Love you, Granny!

Bonner’s Birthday 08

A late B-day card is better than none,
If sent before the month is done.
But one thing is clear
To me, you’re most dear!
And also my A-number-ONE!

To Annie-Poo on 5-24-08

Let’s shout the good news, as pizza is passed-
Our flaxen-haired girl is growing up fast.
She’s twenty-eight in oh-eight-
Keep all records straight!
A real Disney princess she is…at last!

4-8-08

 -IRS TIME-

I know today is April eight
And my return is almost late-
My accounting is nil
‘Cause I’m over the hill’
Could I just file for rebate?

“No! No!” says Mike. “That’s illegal.”
“Even were you an American eagle!”
“Your gross must be straight
And filed by the date
This goes for all—No one’s too regal!”

So to avoid further trouble-
I’ll break out of my bubble!
With a good hard look
I’ll stick by the book-
I simply must get on the double!!

8-19-08

Mike’s Birthday

Birthdays should never be serious-
Not somber, but quite delirious!
So our present is this-
One BIG WET KISS!!
Each year you get more DEAR-TO-US!

From: The Beverly Hilton
Management – JMN
Merchandizing and Publicity – AMH
Maintenance and Security – CJH

9-2-08

Dear House-mates:
My thank-you-note is somewhat late
But truth-to-tell- the TV’s GREAT!!
No more “wham” on top
To make crazies stop-
I surely do appreciate.
And more than that – I love you two-
For being you and for all you do!

10-20-08

Ryan’s B-Day

Your birthday came! Your birthday went!
Thus I’m mailing the gift I never sent-
So go buy a steak
or a big chocolate cake-
Just blow it on BIRTHDAY MERRI-MENT!

9-08

(Granny drew a cute little flower here!)

God blessed me with a wonderful son,
Who phones sometimes when week-day is done.
“Are you doing okay?
I just called to say:
Hello! Good-bye! Gotta Run!!”

11-08

Matthew’s 2nd B-Day

What could be finer, under the sun,
Than the two-year-old birthday
Of PRICE NUMBER ONE!?!
Who lives in his world
Where word skills are few
But communicates clearly – –
“I SURE DO LOVE YOU!”

Molly’s 33rd B-day -09
(un-celebrated until April)

“A DATE to Forget”

For whatever reason
My greeting is late.
A flimsy excuse I won’t try to state.
This has nothing to do
With how much I love you!

11-3-08

I was taught always to smile
Complaining should not be my style!
But when VERTIGO’s spinning
It’s surely not sinning…
To shout a few “DAMNs” all the while!!!

11-4-08

Dear Mike:
There are rules concerning your arm.
Be careful – don’t do any harm!
Don’t push your luck
Like driving your truck..
Or give us cause for alarm.
The tendon will work
If you’re not a jerk!
And “good luck” around you will swarm!!
Love,
Granny

11-08

To “Deborah/DeBORah”

When three syllables make up your name,
All folks don’t pronounce it the same.
It’s not hard to say-
But this is MY way….
Deborah! Let angels proclaim!

11-15-08

To Max & Deborah

Oh where, oh where can the Brewingtons be?
They’ve sailed far away across the sea—
Where, knee-deep in sand,
The LAW of the LAND
Is this! “No cloths on Balcon-EE!”

For Carolina
08

Birthdays are fun, whatever you do
But nothings more fun than El Numero TWO!!
Come rain or come shine
Remember this line–
“In all kinds of weather, your GRANNY LOVES YOU!”

For Elizabeth
12-08

It made my day – I must confess
When I spied my “G” – in chocolate no less–
The taste is quite yummy
A treat for the tummy-
You’ve filled my life with happi-NESS!

2-2-09

*This is Me*

My gift from God was a wonderful guy-
To find one better, I never did try.
He made life a song-
But he wasn’t here long
I pretend I’m a BIG GIRL – then I won’t cry.

4-20-09

Jody

Two things on earth fill your hearts desire-
One is singing alto in the choir.
From teen-age years-with joy, often tears.
When praising His NAME – you never tire.

Your other love, if truth be told…
Is tending an active two-year-old.
A heaven-sent boy
Who gives nothing but joy!
God make Matthew, then broke the mold.

1-20-09

Ode To Deborah

Hail to my sweet and loyal friend!
May countless blessings have no end!
Like the shining morning star,
You shine from afar-
And I love your taste in men!!

4-5-09

To Biddy – Happy B-day!

–-And so God spoke! Twas April five:
“A brand new blessing I now contrive!
I’ll wrap it up safe in baby-girl-skin-
With blue eyes on top, and a heart within.
She’ll live in a room at the top of the stairs.
With parents, and sisters, and a Granny who cares.”
HE DID IT!! (and let me add this)
She turned out to be my favorite dish.
In time, way beyond her wildest schemes,
The Lord sent her the man-of-her-dreams. T
hey live far away
So I’m waiting to say: “
Happy-Biddy-Birthday!”

5-15-09
Brewington

Where oh Where? (#2)

You’ve spoiled me, I know B
ut where did you go?
I’ve no news – not a line I
s this a bad sign?

Are you sick – or in jail?
(I’ll gladly send bail-)
-YET-
This hope is deep in my heart
You’re packing up to depart!
Then soon your dear selves I shall see
And far better than mail that will be!

5-23-09

Happy B-Day – ANNIE

Another year! It’s birthday time!
I need to write a birthday rhyme.
But I’m all out of soap
Just call me a dope!
Being un-original can’t be a crime!
HAPPY HAPPY B-DAY!!

5-23-09

Sonnet on Turning 61 (Eddie Fargason -09)

Birthday blessings we now bestow
On Eddie – for we love him so!
With his perpetual smile
he’ll go the last mile-
Our talented ONE-MAN-SHOW!

He makes up words all his own.
Never misses a note on his trusty trombone.
Says “The temp is fine.
Just sing the right line-
Please stay in your own comfort zone.”

Maestro, composer, a wonderful guy,
The more he demands – the harder we try!
Thus let it be known – and this is sincere –
We wish you a marvelous SIXTY-FIRST YEAR!

4-22-09
Bonner’s B-day

I’m embarrassed – it’s so true –
I clear forgot your date!
Just know I love you dearly,
I’m just telling you – late!
And this is has been for
Thousands of days-
From your childhood to motherhood –
I can’t count the ways!
In my heart you’ll always dwell
BONNER BELLE!!
Twice as SWELL!

Question for Pastor (RJ)

Why rack a good brain with a graduate degree–
When all that you need is BROCC-O-LI!

2-15-09
In Ommon

Double Vision

I.
Here’s Max and Deborah
sitting ‘neath a tree
One’s got a lollypop
one, a cup of tea.
What a beautiful sight
But somethings not right–
They’re home-sick for “LAND of the FREE!”

II.
Here’s Ma and Pa Camel
Just sitting in the shade.
All tuckered out
From the sultan’s parade.
A good-looking pair
But filled with hot air
Waiter! Please bring them Kool-Aid!

5-13-00

HAPPY Buddy DAY!

How do I write what comes from the heart?
I’ve tried and discovered–
I’m all out of smart!
But this you should know
As years come and go
My love keeps on FLOWING
While you’re growing and growing!

1-09
For Sat. 31st

Can you guess who’s coming to lunch?
The “Brown Bags” with something to munch!
They’ve nothing to sell
Just stories to tell
Who could find a lovelier bunch!

6-20-09

Shower for Annie (Jody’s gift)

Can you guess what I brought for the mother-to-be?
A gift she’ll soon be unable to see.
It goes on her toes
In bright pink, I suppose
A symbol of life – once care-free.
So when Hattie awakes at a quarter-to-three,
And Annie is bouncing her on her knee,
She’ll probably say, “I know this for sure—I couldn’t have made it
without the PEDICURE!**

**Or “A twenty-buck pedicure” $$
(Best)

7-09
To Family at Casa Rosa

I’m not there – as you can see!
I also am where I’d rather not be. A
t home with my cat, T
hat’s where I’m at!
Instead of eating GUAC-MOLEE!

5-21-10

Deborah’s B-Day

A “Happy Birthday!” late
Is slightly better than none.
Just know- you’re my precious friend….
Brewington-girl-number-ONE!

6-19-10

Jody’s B-Day ’10

Buy yourself a something new
Or take Mike out to dinner.
Dine on steak, buy a purple “tee” –
Use this when your wallet’s thinner.

9-10

Dearest Al and Elizabeth-
What fun to read of your dinner-date!
With its nauseous course of day-old fish-bait.
I trust that even the horrible food
Did not change your romantic mood?!
And also you’ve learned to enunciate
New Spanish words, at an alarming rate. That’s GREAT!!
But here’s the big news over our way –
Two events happened on the very same day!
1. Truett was baptized in a neighbor’s pool
2. And we beat the Yankee’s – isn’t that COOL?!
It’s true, these are not of equivalent worth
Victorious baseball can’t match “the new-birth”
But skunking Yankees has an endearing way
Of bringing great joy – which just MAKES MY DAY!

9-10

Mgr’s Report – Beverly Hilton’s
All is well, but I’ve noticed a change-
Since you left the house seems quite strange-
Everything’s normal, but something is quite wrong:
Rooms are too quiet, days are too long.

Marta, as always, still sweeps up the floor.
Invading mosquitos still fly through the door. The
African Violet bloomed glorious pink!
Last night’s dishes are still in the sink.
The ducks on the table look sad, and go “Quack!”
In Texan, that means “When will Katie be back?”
Upstairs is empty, but I do not fret.
For “Big Girls Don’t Cry”——
(That is—not quite yet!)

(Dycks In Madrid!)

9-10

Random Rhyme

Jody’s got the diaper-bag
Annie’s got the plants-
Molly’s got the fiddle-sticks
Hattie’s got wet pants!

Christmas 2010

Molly’s Lament (tune: Oh Christmas Tree)

Oh, pregnancy! Oh, pregnancy!
Gets worse as it advances
Oh, pregnancy! Oh, pregnancy!
I swallow meds and don’t take chances.

My head spins ’round
Can’t keep food down
My clothes don’t fit
I cannot sit

Should I blame Eve for her big sin?
For bequeathing me
The state I’m in?
“NO!”

I’ll wait till spring, when roses bloom-
Then all my organs will have much more room.
Well’s have what God will surely do-
All’s worth it for Fanastic Number TWO!
(Hallie Claire!)

12-10

Molly’s Pregnant Lament – new words – old tune

Tell me why the stars don’t shine?
Why am I gagging – unable to dine?
Because I’m pregnant – a woman can tell –
Each day being nauseous – a living HELL!
Until they showed me on doctor’s screen –
The tiniest being that I’d ever seen –
With miniature arms and legs that work –
Wherein I felt like a vomiting jerk!
What does it matter to miss a meal?
Here is God’s gift—kicking and real!
Oh thank You, dear Father, from Ryan and me.
For your precious creation in our family. (FAM-i-LY)
(Lee)

5-10

Jody Gee at Cisco Grill

Ranchers must ranch
Farmers much farm
Or even swap jobs
without doing much harm.
Each one to his own
Surely that’s best.
Cattle like pasture,
Mrs. Hen likes her nest.
I, for one, want a house with a dream.
And trying to fit into God’s perfect scheme!

2010

Happy B-Day Suzie!

My blessings this year Are too many to number
To begin with, there’s Ambien
For a good night’s slumber.

Then bifocals to see with
And hearing aids too- B
ut heading the list
Is Buddy’s wife: YOU!

You do all the things
I no longer can do–
Buy and wrap presents
Then cook chili-stew.

From carrot souffle
To fixing the phone.
Driving me Sundays
With never a groan.

May God bless you richly!
And keep angels near-
May two-thousand-ten
Be your happiest year!!

2-23-11

On Elizabeth Gorman’s B-Day

How much do I love thee?
There’s lots of different ways.
For picking up prescriptions,
Or milk on rainy days.
For listening to my rantings
with sympathetic ear-
then saying–,”Won’t matter at all
By this time in a year!”

For sharing a joke – for singing a song –
For reminding me when my choices are wrong.
I still could count a hundred more.
For your goodness to me doth richly pour.
But here’s the big reason – I know it is true
God blessed me richly when He gave me YOU!

2-12

Thank you, Jody

Here’s my check for what you spent at the store-
Buying stuff that strengthens my bad habits more.
But won’t chocolate, like pills,
Surely cure all my ills?
No wonder you’re the kid I adore!

2010

Louisa’s B-Day

Here’s your “Happy B-Day”–LATE!
What happened is—I forgot your DATE!
I’m covered with shame-
For I am solely to blame.
I hope you’ll forgive,
For as long as I live,
Come sun, or come rain
I’LL NEVER DO THIS A-GAIN!

11-24-11

Thank You, Prices

Thank you for the M&Ms
I’m down to thirty-five-
You made my birthday the very best one
Ever since I’ve been Alive!
–ONLY–
It would’ve been better if you’d been there–
Drs. Price, Matthew and Hallie Claire!

11-11

So I’m not Mona Lisa

Today I received your drawing of me.
You’ve captured my exotic personality.
It made me know you really do care
When I noticed you’d given me purple hair!
I love the handsome space-man sticker
(who got there first by being quicker!)
I’ll probably hang it on the wall
Where all can see it from the hall.
Then I’ll proudly proclaim about Matthew-Boy
God’s glorious gift-
My (cup) of Joy!

2011

For John Stephenson: (on reaching 13)

They call it a “Baptist Bar-Mitz-vah”-
A WHAT?! Now don’t throw a fitz-vah!
Here’s what it means-
John’s entering his teens
His childhood has now called it: “quitsvah!”

So, John, hang up your worn-out toys
It’s game time now with bigger boys
Every day you’ll learn a new-
If success be yours – it’s up to you!
Sometimes life’s a bumpy ride
But remember – all of us are on your side!
With Granny’s Love

2011

Who: Eliz? Date: 2011?

Where oh where did my memory go?
I’ve looked high and low
How I wish this were not so!

Your birthday came – then also went
Completely forgotten – not any dime spent!
To say how much you’ve always meant!

Please forgive is all I ask
Which alone is quite a difficult task
I shouldn’t need any birth-DAY
For me to have this special say-
You’re a special blessing to me in every way!

2011

P-pretty is as pretty does.
R-remember who you are
U-unless you can say something nice
D-do unto others as you would have them
E-every good boy deserves fun.
N-none of us is perfect.
C-children are to be seen, not heard.
E-enter into His gates with Thanksgiving.

-for Prudence Mackintosh

1-20-12

R. & J. How Come?

Is anything sweeter under the sun
Than sitting with a friend when day is done!?!

Like two little kitty-cats- Side by side –
Tails hanging low–
Nothing to hide.

How did this friendship get its start?
(two so close, yet years apart)

God saw His first handiwork, and said, “How nice!”
“If I can do it once, I can surely do it TWICE!”

12-2-12
(note the 2s)

Happy B-day, Jody G.
From someone who thinks
You’re the TOP-of-the-HEAP!
Whose love for you is WIDE and DEEP.
Who also shares her family NAME
Since Dec. 2nd, when you originally came.
Use this chk for a new blue sweater…
(unless you’d rather have something else better.)
-OR-
Take a friend to lunch and as you munch – say
Granny must surely “LOVE ME A BUNCH!”

12-2-12

To Lena – She understands deep things

Can a broken heart be fixed to go?
That’s one thing I cannot know.
Otherwise, here’s what I’d do–
I’d find the glue, and stick the parts back like new.
I’d dump my salty tears in a Neiman’s sack–
Then ask the Lord to please NOT GIVE THEM BACK!
(Won’t cost you a dime
just takes a long time!)

**Then Granny drew a sad face and a happy face and then wrote “yeah!”

6-12

BIG BOY ON TOUR

I’ve hiked a thousand miles today
Up-hill, down-hill, the tourist way.
I’ve learned a lot about ancient peoples
I’m up to here with cathedral steeples. –
—–ooo——-
But I must not stop – or take a break-
or do anything at all to ease the ache.
For I’m a BIG BOY
I don’t complain –
Be it broiling sun or drenching rain.

1-24-13

Happy B-Day/Julia Belle!

Where should I look?
Where do I go?
I’ve searched up high
and I’ve looked down low!
But in all the human race
I’ve found there’s insufficient space
–to hold–
The exact amount I cannot tell
of all my love for sweet Julia Belle
Thank you, God, for one so dear!
And just think–
This is only her very FIRST YEAR!!

1-11-13

Where’s Granny? She’s up on a cloud!
Shouting today’s news very loud!!
It’s the headline of the day
So we have every right to say–
LOUISA
Won a new advanced spot in ballet!
“All of us are extremely proud”
–your family and the rest of the crowd!

2-7-13

It’s TRUE

At first I couldn’t believe my eyes!
Can it be true? Tell me no lies…
I checked the whole works
It took me a while
I even had to reset the dial.
But now I can see the new movie star:
Truett Hernandez!
That’s WHO you are!!
OKAY GANG! Let’s yell it out LOUD!
GRANNY NASH
is
EXTREMELY PROUD!!!

2-24-13

–GRANNY’S TURN–

Oh say can you see
Any new-boy-names from me?
Winston Churchill – Robert E. Lee –
Haggai – Malachi – or what if a girl?
Whom God has blessed with a top-knot curl?

Over the years
Here’s some wisdom I’ve learned:
“A name worth carrying is one that is earned!”

Our new little Hunt will be God’s gift for the day.
Who’d want it any other way?

[Addenda to A/J]
Skinny or fatter: the name does not matter!
Just so the new baby takes after YOU!
Now we know!
Georgia Truett Hunt

2-23-13

ELIZABETH
Happy B-Day!
JMN

It came to pass a long time ago
(A few days after a heavy snow)
To be exact, the twenty-third
I was there, take my word!
When God blessed our home beyond compare
With a brand sparkling girl-baby for us to care!
(NO MANGER this time, just go up the stair)
“Elizabeth” became her selfless name
For when she was needed – she always came!
Throughout her days, she has prospered and thrived—
Else the family surely would not have survived.

2-13

To Glenn Smith

They say I’ve a heart-warming trait
of remembering stuff: usually late!
So finally: Here’s my HAPPY B-DAY WISHES!
Wrapped up in many
loving hugs and kisses!

–At Cisco’s–
JMN (see 11-11)

WHO KNOWS the importance of this date?
It’s Molly’s birthday – March 8!!!
The time God showed us His loving care-
With a gorgeous girl baby
Tho’ lacking even ONE bit of hair.
Instead, God gave her a discerning brain
And movie-star looks –
She easily mastered all the veterinary books!
Thank You, Lord, for your gift so rare–
And later, also including…

The Great Mystery

Oh where, oh where has my front tooth gone?
Oh where oh where can it be?
It belonged to me for a long long time
Who can solve this mys—ter—ee?

I slept last night as I always do
with my lips clamped tight in their place.
But when I awoke
I was amazed to see something was wrong with my face!

Where my front tooth used to be
Was only a gaping hole for all to see!
Oh No! Oh No! Where did it go?
Did the tooth-fairy come, when lights were low?
And leave a coin to fit in the row?
If you discover this shocking truth–
Please return to me my missing tooth!

 “The Angel from Cedar Hill”

Big hugs and thanks so very much
For bringing me goodies, stamps, and such
This doesn’t anywhere near cover the bill
Whether you drive up or down-hill.
(for any idiot knows you cannot go far
without replenishing the gas that goes in the car!)
I figure t’would take a list of days-
to enumerate the many ways
Your loving care has meant so much!
God blessed my life with your angel-touch.
You didn’t get wings or other angel-things.
But you’re my answer to prayer Angel-GIRL!
Are you there? Are you there?

Louisa’s B-Day

Dear God:
You’ve blessed us in your special way
When you spoke”
“Thus I shall always say–
November 10 is Louisa’s everlasting birthday.”

You made her of first-rate quality
And also very smart
With more than a touch of beauty
And graciousness-a-la-carte!!
We thank You, Father,
For blessings galore
Now eat some chocolate cake
And pass your plate for MORE!

[This was the last poem in her book.]
