Nash (Mitchell) Family Connection to the Waggoners of the Waggoner Ranch

Harvey Mitchell (1821-1901) and Arthusia Jane Foley Mitchell (1828-1885) had a number of children.  Frances Barziza (Fannie) Mitchell (1857-1935) married E. R. Nash, Sr.  (1854-1925). Her brother James E. Mitchell (1864-1931) married Maud Halsell (1870-1974).

James E. Mitchell was a well known jeweler who had a store on the ground floor of the Fort Worth National Bank Building in Fort Worth, Texas.  Maud was from a early Wise County family named Halsell.  Her father was John Glenn Halsell (1845-1886) and her mother was Julia Frances Earhart Halsell (1847-1930).  Maud’s grandfather was Electious Halsell (1816-1887) and her mother was Elisabeth Jane Mays Halsell (1818-1870).  Electious and Elisabeth Jane Halsell had several children including George, William E., Ida, Roswell, James Thompson, Sicily Ann, John Glenn and Ella.  Ella (1859-1959) married William Thomas Waggoner, better known as Tom Waggoner, who co-founded the Waggoner Ranch with his father Dan Waggoner.

The Halsells and Waggoners were twice related by marriage. Tom’s father was Dan Waggoner and his mother was Nancy Moore Waggoner who died in 1853. In 1858, Dan had married Sicily Ann Halsell (Ella’s older sister). This made for a rather complicated set of family trees, since a father and son married two sisters.

If you have followed all the genealogy, this shows that Maud was the niece of Sicily, Ella and Tom Waggoner.  In this way, the Mitchell side of the family is related by marriage to the Waggoners of the Waggoner Ranch.
